Bellows

Bellows are used for protecting the Piston Rod and by extension, the hydraulic system from external contaminants. In a hydraulic system, 85% of the problems are due to contamination.

A microscopic view of contaminants

The contamination affects the pump, motor, valves, fittings, cylinders, seals, etc. and ultimately damages the system. So as a preventive measure, bellows are used. The bellows reduce the replacement cost of hydraulic parts and also reduce the downtime. Bellows are designed based on the application and temperature.

Bellows can be made from a variety of materials:

  • Leather
  • Foam
  • Rexene
  • PVC/ Plastic Coating
  • Fabric
  • Silicon coated fabric
  • Nylon Polyester
  • Rubber coated fabric
  • CanvasRubber Bellow
  • High Temp. Fabric (upto 1200 degrees Celsius)
  • Rubber
  • Teflon

Bellows can also be made in various shapes:

  • Circular
  • Rectangular
  • Square
  • Hexagonal
  • Octagonal
  • C’ type
  • Camera type bellows
  • Roller guardC’ Type Bellows

Square and rectangular type Bellows

Bellows can be used to prevent the following types of contamination:

  • Water
  • Other Liquids (Coolant, Oil)
  • Dust
  • Hot air
  • Granules
  • Metallic chips
  • Powder
  • Smoke
  • Chemicals

Bellows are an effective method to help prevent the contamination of hydraulic systems. They are used in all sorts of industries including chemical, plastic, cement, coal and manufacturing to name a few. They can also be used on a variety of machines including Hydraulic presses, Grinding machines, Milling machines and CNC machines.
